The economy was front and center at this year’s Providence Business Expo. Or at least it was foremost on everyone’s mind. And the headlines didn’t offer much hope either. Even speakers mentioned it by name — yes, recession.
Yet there was a certain buzz about the crowd. Not a bad-buzz per say (for the most part anyway). Actually, quite the opposite. It seemed that fellow businesses weren’t too interested in sitting on the sidelines. For some, it was business-as-usual. For others, even a bit of defiant.
Either way, it was a boost. Especially given the fact that we spent two days talking to seemingly hundreds of different companies about the advantages of marketing in a down economy. And we pressed that despite the bleak economic outlook, there are still tremendous opportunities to be had— with the right design and marketing solutions of course.
So how did it go? Guess only time — and you — may tell.

Mike – I love seeing you in the blogosphere. Regarding your post, my thoughts are that marketing folks need to continue to embrace interactive/social media to drive their business forward. It’s cheaper, easier and much more pervasive than the “dead trees” flavor. Also, you can create much deeper relationships with your customers if you do it right.
Look forward to reading more!

I agree that the crowd was upbeat, especially in light of the local and regional business news/outlook. I always find the Expo to be a great opportunity to meet new people, learn about other businesses in RI and reconnect with business acquaintances. I hope more people had booths and attended than in 2007.
Best regards,
Robert
ps. colorful and interesting Aardvark booth!
Someone once said “Attitude determines altitude.” There is no doubting the forecast of the economic indicators. We are in for some tougher roads ahead. But this will change and things will get better.
We all seem to have short memories when it comes to our economic downturns. And which each one, people always say the same things…”Its differnt this time.”
Well truth is it different every time. But there are similarities. And we always do recover.
But how we act and react during these times and our attitude during these times will help determine our future success as the economy begins to recover.
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation
Anyway … nice blog to visit.
cheers, Internationally!!
